Were we what you were looking for?

The Dusk Hold began as a project between two lifelong friends in the wake of the loss of their college roommate, David Jones. The three shared a deep love of music and writing, spending countless hours together talking, creating, and refining ideas. Bobby and Dave were both guitarists who had collaborated on songs for years, continuing their creative partnership long after college. Jared Salyers, while not a musician at the time, was a constant presence—offering insight, critique, and encouragement.

In 2023, Dave passed away after a long battle with cancer. In response, Bobby chose to honor his friend the best way he knew how: by continuing to make music with those closest to him. He bought a drum set, turned to Jared, and—paraphrasing the incomparable T-Model Ford—told him, “You’re gonna play these motherfuckers.”

When they’re not hammering away at their instruments in the attic of Jared’s turn-of-the-century Appalachian home, Bobby and Jared both teach high school English. Through their work, they hope to inspire a new generation to appreciate the written word—and maybe discover some good music along the way.
